Okay. I installed OpenSolaris and ndis-1.1 make ndiscvt, bcmndis, and ndisapi 
compiled without a hitch. 
bcmndis still failed to attach, and in fact it made my machine crash/reboot! 
The kernel report makes me believe that this is now fixable, but by someone 
smarter than me.
