If no one at Sun is already working on this, then I can take a look at
it.  I noted that the bug report indicated "in-progress", so I thought
maybe someone was already working on it.

Yes, I know that.  I consider that a very suboptimal solution.  ufs
logging has some significant performance benefits, and it really helps
make crashes a lot more bearable.  In some markets, this is critical, as
folks don't want to wait 20 minutes for their terabyte of disk to fsck.
