One thing to keep in mind, OpenSolaris uses ZFS by default (it's the only option). And ZFS uses memory. As much as it can when other applications aren't using it. So basically, unused memory isn't doing you any good so ZFS (and the kernel) are going to use whatever's available and scale back it's usage when it needs to. Cheers, -- Glenn
