If you are going to be sharing your log with respected administrators involved in world-wide networking, then maintaining GMT is the way. You never know what time zone they will be in, and endless converting is what we're trying to avoid. My logs stay local, within the PST timezone. So it's eaiser if mine are in localtime. > Not sure. If you set the hardware clock to > local time, the UNIX kernel can't do that - or won't. On my UnixWare 7 box, the rtc is in locatime. Xntpd sets the OS clock time via stratum 2 servers, and then sets the rtc. Both are kept in localtime, and it works well in PST or PDT months. It sounds like the Unices you're using act differently.
