I have no clue what FRS stands for, but a versioning system is for
things that change, like source, header and config files and, of course,
documentation. It is a nuisance that the binaries are a part of the
development system and show up in the commit info.

One solution might be to put the packages out of the git tree, so no
packages directory under buildtool. It should not disturb the underlying
make structure or whatever is used to build the packages.
