It looks like the ntpclnt defaults to a partial backup:

  [brad@brad-nb ntpclnt]$ cat var/lib/lrpkg/ntpclnt.bktype
  Part

which only backs up the files in etc and var (not usr/sbin):

  [brad@brad-nb ntpclnt]$ cat var/lib/lrpkg/ntpclnt.local
  I etc/init.d/ntpclient
  I var/lib/lrpkg/ntpclnt.*
  X usr/sbin

If you switch it to a full backup before you backup, you will
probably be okay.

I didn't realize there was a startup script included with ntpclnt
until you mentioned it.  /var/log/ntp.log shows a host name lookup
failure on my firewall too.  Oops.
