To introduce myself I have been a long time follower of the Linux Router
Project aka LEAF. I have actually been using various distros since Dachstein
always with pcmcia. I can tell you it has been a long hard battle at times
espcially when all you could find was some bits and pieces of info here and
there. After watching other people struggling to repeat what I had already
gone though it was time to give something back to the list. Excuse the
hotmail address as the LEAF list serv doesn't like our inhouse mail server.
But here is a quick lesson on how to make pcmcia work flawlessly in Bering.
1. You should modify your modutils as follows
ae /etc/init.d/modutils
RCDLINKS="S,S20"
PATH="/sbin:/bin:/usr/sbin:/usr/bin"
#Let PCMCIA catch up to the ethernet you might have to play with value
#depending on equipment
sleep 5
2. Set up your interfaces
Scroll down to the bridge
# Step 4 (optional): configure a bridge
auto br0
iface br0 inet static
address 123.456.789.000
masklen 24
broadcast 123.456.789.255
gateway 123.456.789.254
bridge_ports wlan0 wlan1 wlan2
This is assuming that you are loading the bridge module.
Thats right this particular location I am running three wireless cards in
bridge no ethernet cards it has been running for 5 weeks now and actually
sits on top of 200 foot grain elevator and handles two point to point
connections 8 miles away and one point to multi point with 30 clients
ranging up to 5 miles away. Never hicupped once.
The wireless cards in this case are 200mw Prism cards with external antenna
connectors which our company does sell. I also use standard 30mw Prism cards
in alot of locations. The wireless driver is from http://hostap.epitest.fi/
which I use in both AP and station mode haven't had much luck with the
Orinoco driver.
I also have a pcmcia.lrp for Dachstein with wireless if anybody is
interested and also a older disk with support for the Teletronics 2 meg
cards this one is kinda hacked together but has been working in many
locations since last November.
Also use the same setup on the Soekris 4521 boards with two pcmcia and one
ethernet works great.
Hope this helps
