Jeff,
Let me see if I can clarify the issue for you.

    Note: I'll probably bungle the attempt. :-(

Message headers contain Content-Type MIME information. For attachments
you usually only see a Content-Type of multipart/mixed. It's not
possible to do a regex that will identify text/plain attachments from
the mail headers alone. At least, I know of none.
