does it work on a 4GB CF, with a boot partition that doesn't span the 
whole disc (say, 512MB)?

Just curious if there's an easy workaround for the issue you've 
encountered. It could well be that the issue is related to the 4801 (I 
remember there being a general issue larger drives - but that was a 
while ago, I don't know if current revisions of the BIOS took care of 
that).
