Hi Matt, Don't do yourself down, have a look at the video, it isn't that difficult it just requires patience and a firm (but gentle) touch..!
Regarding the Genius Bar, it depends on what repair you had done and how carefully it was carried out. If it was only the front glass and digitizer that was replaced, and they have not scuffed the glass edges or the unibody aluminium shell, it is unlkely that they can tell at first glance that a non-authorised repair has been performed. This means that if your iPad is still in warranty (Apple thinks that's 1 yr, the EU think it's 2 yrs) then you should (providing you kick up the right level of fuss) be able to get a new iPad swapped out straight away. If you had the LCD screen replaced aswell, it really depends on the quality of the replacement screen. If it was a genuine apple part (oem by Samsung, Sharp or LG) then again, if the job was done well and there is no scuffing, the Apple Genius is unlikely to notice without sending the device away. However, there are lots of 3rd party vendors offering non-oem replacement displays that are not of the same quality as the oem parts and this is quickly noticed when placing an orginal Apple device next to the device with the 3rd party screen. I would suggest that if there are no scuff marks on your device, take it to an Apple shop and place it next to a display iPad. Crank both screens up to full brightness and look at the difference. If there is no discernable difference, go to the Genius Bar, apologise for not realising you needed an appointment and wing it - the worst that can happen is they say no... Failing that, get the hair dryer out ;-) Good luck! -----Original Message----- From: m...@leeds-united.net [mailto:m...@leeds-united.net] Subject: Re: [LU] non LU - techie help for Ipad Thanks all, I am not capable enough to open it up and mess. The apple store is a no no because I had a non apple fix. The place I had it done at have such poor customer service I won't use them again but there is another place nearby. No idea of quality I'm guessing that you really need someone who knows what they are doing and is an ipad specialist. Also is there any way a "genius" would know if the ipad had been opened and fixed without taking it apart? I have heard that they simply replace them a lot of the time. Whilst the LCD screen itself is screwed to the rear shell, the digitiser and front glass are 'simply' glued to the front of the machine.
