I actually thought the performance v Forest was not all that bad. I know they haven't been pulling up any trees recently (hah!), but nevertheless I thought Forest were excellent. They scored one and a half very good goals and then produced an extremely disciplined defensive display for 75 mins. Although it is true that we rarely looked like breaking them down, I felt we played with more passion and skill than you might expect given our recent run of results.
The first goal was a breathtaking and thoroughly un-Championship type piece of combined skill and movement. They produced two sublime touches around the halfway line and then the movement of Mclaughlin & DErbyshire was outstanding. OK, maybe Warnock should have got across a bit quicker or Pearce should have shown a bit more pace, but I think overall you just put your hands up and say well played after a goal like that. The second goal was also an excellent quick break, although we did contribute with two mistakes. We were actually building a decent attack down the left, and then someone (couldn't tell who on the telly, but my number one suspect is Brown) tried to lat the ball back from the edge of the box without looking, and gave the ball straight to a red shirt. Within seconds, the ball was on the edge of our box, where Wootton actually did well to cover D/shire's run and got to the ball first. He made the mistake of trying to be too positive and clear the ball downfield, ending up playing it against the player (who was very lucky the way the ball then broke for him.) Wootton should have played it safe towards the opposite corner flag, but he was unlucky. After that, we clearly lacked a bit of confidence (understandable) and quality. As some have said, White & Stewart might have been better options. But overall, I did not see that as a team who are clueless or are not playing for the manager. So I say MCDERMOTT IN.
