My view was this was yet another piss poor performance. Despite what appears on
paper to be not a bad month and a half I feel we've been second best in a lot
of the games and to be honest I think we look like a relegation team rather
than a team aiming for the top 6.
Last night I thought we were poor all over the park with the main offenders
being O'Kane and Sacko who were terrible. Ok Sacko provided the cross for the
goal but Wood did all the hard work. Apart from that he was bloody awful as he
was at Derby and I am beginning to wonder about his worth. Having said that, I
would never in a million years take him off and out Grimes on as a right wing
replacement. Absolutely mind boggling ? Was Sacko injured ? I hope so.
Then he goes and puts Mowatt on for Hernandes - was Hernandes injured ? I
bloody hope so.
They hit the woodwork and looked the more likely to score throughout. We were
poor and I'm getting fed up with watching below par performances from below par
players. I think the whole of our midfield is lacking - that includes the back
up, although I can't help thinking that Diaogura and Murphy (yes him) are
better options than Grimes and Mowatt. They are really chronic.
The only improvement in the last 6 weeks is Jansson who has galvanised the
defence although last night we looked a bit shaky. Maybe the honeymoon period
is over ?
Also, Derby ? - that was a piss poor performance. I think people sometimes only
remember the last 20 minutes and forget the first 70. We hardly got a touch
first half.
This team is going nowhere.

Gutted, pretty much sums up how I felt as I trudged back to the bus stop, a
feeling shared by the rest of the fans, mixed in with annoyance, and
frustration - we all thought our vulnerability at corners and our penchant for
throwing away points were things of the past. Yes Wigan can put up an argument
that they deserved their point but going into injury time (4mins) one nil up at
home to a team who are near the bottom and usually lose away, should result in
3 points not heartbreak
I was reasonably confident going into the game, my mates version of Derby
performance more in tune with the professional reports (eg bbc and Ch5) rather
than fans on here, and we knew Wigan were not very good and would be there for
the taking
A disappointing crowd (19k) never really got going and nor did the team in many
respects. This was a very mixed performance, some good moves and flowing
footbally interspersed with unforced errors and a lack of passion. The players
all showing why they play at this level and not the Prem.  Herndandez, Phillips
and Sacko all making one error for every good touch, Roofe never quite firing
etc. Wigan were poor as well, with 2 of the worst passes I have ever seen - one
just straight into touch 20yds from where the pass was intended and another
blasted yards over the other players head.
We had most of the ball but were not doing a lot with it - the game needed a
moment of magic and we got it. Sacko ran down the right wing, pushed the ball
too far and allowed the defender to intercept it but only to hit it back
against Sacko and for it to bounce ahead of them. Sacko won this second race
easily and found himself in plenty of space, he hit a decent, if slightly long
cross, which Wood controlled brilliantly on his chest and then walloped it home
as it came down - a great finish.
After that both teams had chances - they had a long shot that skimmed the
outside of the post, and then a corner nearly brought the equaliser but a great
first save by Green and then a goal line clearance by Wood meant we went in 1
up.For us Ayling had had a great shot just wide and Sacko burst through and
nearly beat the keeper at his near post but the keeper scrambled it clear.
Second half was mainly boredom - a too high cross was well met by Wood whose
looping header was headed for the top corner but the keeper got a hand to it.
Wigan did not offer much but we retreated further and further into our shell.
The mood amongst fans was that a second would win us the game but that this new
Leeds United could and would hold on to the slender lead.
Then Monk made 3 changes and things got worse. HE took off Sacko, who had not
been great but who was scaring them and causing problems and on came Grimes. It
is too soon to right Grimes off but it is hard to see what he brings to the
team and his introduction meant we lost an easy outlet when we were going more
into our shell. Hernandez was limping so no surprise when he went off, almost
like for like with Mowatt except that Hernandez is better. Then off went Wood -
he had one of his very good games yesterday - his goal, clearance off the line,
header saved and another excellent shot saved, only telling some of the story
as he held the ball up well and caused the defenders problems pulling them
around. Antonsson does have something about him but the lone striker role does
not suit him.
So the clock ticked down and we were all secretly worried but openly saying 'we
will be fine. Bartley and Jansson have got us sorted' - then what would have
been inevitable last few seasons happened again. 90mins gone and they get a
corner - the ball goes to the far post and is headed back, a missed overhead
kick by a striker did enough to stop our defenders challenging for it and the
ball fell kindly to their lad who hit it home via the upright. We huffed and
puffed a bit in the last 3 minutes but the points were thrown away. Gutted
Dave
