1. Phillips. Have none of you got any idea of the basic principles of Bielsa's method of play? One of them is to switch play from one side to the other quickly and often (to keep the defenders moving across and back over and over.) To do this, somebody has to pass the ball sideways. Phillips is the player usually tasked with doing this, and he does it really well. "Passing the ball sideways" is the classic crime which English "fans" love to identify and make themselves sound as if they are clever. That remark by McLaren, which was praised on here, was fuckwittery of the highest order, and demonstrated right there why he has been appointed to so many jobs but has ultimately failed every time.
2. White. The point about that goal was that it was an INCREDIBLE finish by their lad. What all you armchair geniuses did not seem to notice was that he produced that shot with absolutely no backlift. White therefore had no clue that he was about to shoot, which was why he remained sideon ready to respond to a further dribble. (Why do players have to produce these incredible- I mean, literally, incredible - things against us? Last year, that lad from Wigan was unplayable with his speed and skill. Has he ever done anything since? That kid who scored last night.........he will retire in 10 years after kicking around the lower leagues, and the highlight of his career will have been an amazing goal he scored at Elland Road.
