I take it backI said last night " was not fun "Just been on BBC page to see
this  which put me in my place
Well that's enough excitement for one night. Definitely up there as one of the
best matches of the Premier League season so far

Firstly, yes there was a rule change,  last season, where if a penalty is
given it is a yellow not  red  ( they felt both punishments for one offence was
a double whammy) there are circumstances when a red is given but not for the  "
last man cynical foul"Personally I would give a yellow if penalty is scored but
red if it is missed- would add to the fun, deliberate miss and get extra
player or go to score and play v 11)
Anyway,  last night. That was as poor and non Bielsa a performance as I can
recall ( maybe Barnsley was worse?) I have been telling everyone to watch us
because it is fun irrespective of the result.  Last night was not fun. We
looked leggy and lost after a great start, and as everyone has seen we cannot
defend set pieces and then give away needless ones!
The big worry for me is our actual results,  a point from liverpool,  man city
and Chelsea is fine, and we have only beaten recent Championship teams - villa,
Fulham,  Sheffield u, BUT apart from Everton we have lost to every established
team - Leicester, Palace, Wolves and now West Ham  ( plus for completeness a
draw v a poor ten man Arsenal)  Our home record is also poor. As long as we
continue to beat Burnley , and west brom along with Fulham Villa Shef U, then
we will have enough to stay up but if they can pack the defence an score from
corners that is not a foregone conclusion
I am not worried (yet) but we need to get a few things sorted and quickly (
beat Newcastle  and get at least a point v scum and things will b brighter) We
knew things would be tough so we just have to ride it out

I don’t have much to add to this as it says pretty much everything I would
have done: when I was thinking about our defence last night I couldn’t get past
the word “makeshift”...

Some of the most improved players of the last couple of years - Dallas, Ayling,
Klich, Alioski - were valued, in part at least for their athleticism around the
pitch: they created a tempo. With the exception of Ayling, who did do OK at
CHalf, they look to be running on fumes...there’s just no buzz or zip about
they move on the pitch. There was much more square ball across the back 4 or 5
yesterday, because they had no targets to aim for ahead of them and the gap
between front and back was a gulf...which is where you would normally find
Klich or Pablo.

If we are going to continue being weak at corners, then we have to strongly
defend against giving them away... the gaps behind Alioski in the first half
were criminal, as was the lack of cover he was getting from Harrison.

In the end I felt sorry for Bamford and Raphinha who were coming a long way
back for scraps at times. Also felt sympathy for Meslier, but that is becoming
a normal state of affairs.

One question - probably a rule change I have missed - why didn’t the keeper get
a straight red?

And yeah, I know we benefitted but by Christ it took 6 or 7 minutes to take
that bloody penalty...and the first one was shit.
