Killa only had 6 months on his contract left. He clearly wasn't interested in signing on again with us because firstly he would have got less money, not more, as we are in a worse position now than when his last contract was agreed, and secondly there is a real prospect of us playing in the 1st div next season. We certainly aint gonna be in the prem, which he knew he would be with Sheff Utd sniffing round.
So, its £1.75m now, or fuck all in 6 months time when he goes. If you lot think for a second he would have stayed with us beyond the summer you need to get real. We are not in a position to 'throw away' £1.75m Also, the fact he wouldnt sign a new contract, and was therefore going to be off in the summer, might possibly give the message that he wasnt 100% behind us, and thats something Wise is dead against. So, we either loan him to someone else until the summer, when he will go for nothing, thereby getting us net zero except the chance of having to pay his wages should he get injured, or we sell him now and get some money and potentially use that to get players in that do want to play for us. Basically its not a choice of either sell him or dont sell him, it was a choice between sell him now and get £1.75m, or let him go on a free transfer in the summer. The only longer term implication that needed to be considered was, would we have any better chance of staying up this season with him in the side as opposed to 2/3/4 players we could get in with that money? This also assumes Killa was willing and able to play for us until the summer. -----Original Message----- From: [EMAIL PROTECTED] [mailto:[EMAIL PROTECTED] On Behalf Of Tim Leslie Sent: 09 January 2007 09:48 To: [email protected] Subject: Re: [LU] Kilgallon I don't say this too often, but in this case I am 100% behind the Walkmeister. This is a fcuking disgrace, made worse by that complete cnut Warnock rubbing salt into the wound by mocking us with how much he would have paid in the summer. We are an embarrassment. No Sean, Kilgallon wasn't perfect, I've often pulled Rich up with a few "Steady on there" moments, but Rich is right. YOU noticed him making last gasp challenges because he was getting half the defence out of the mire due to their incompetancy. Getting rid of the shite (Although Creaney has yet to attract that lucrative offer from Rochdale) and putting something half decent ALONGSIDE Killa would have seen him not needing to make such appearances and indeed oing what you say and being virtually anonymous because he can get on with his own job. But what REALLY pissed me off is the price. Bollocks to anyone who whinges "Oh but his forms not been too good recently" we got £1.75 Mill for an England Under 21 International. Without doubt someone who, in the right team and with the right coaching, could IMHO DEFINATELY rise up to full international level. It's Aaron Lennon all over again. I thought when we got £5M for two 16 year olds that the fire sale mentality had gone, obviously not. SO we've pocketed 2.75 Million pounds for two players, one of which (Using Wright Phillips as the benchmark) is now - within 18 months of that - worth £21 Million. Injury aside, I can see him if he does carry on how I expect him to, going for £15M to somewhere like Liverpool in the future. AND WE HAVEN'T EVEN INCLUDED A BUY ON CLAUSE!!!! We are SO fucking useless in the transfer market, we always have been and, despite cuddly Kens empty rhetoric about how he won't be made to look stupid when it comes to transfers. He just has been. > £1.75m for a central defender that frequently gets caught out of position, > beaten in the air and out-muscled isn't too bad.
