I'm a ST holder. I'm not particularly chuffed about the price cuts but I do
have to say that if the crowds come in and make a few points difference and
those few points keep us up, then that is worth £12 or £18 to me.

Subject: [LU] Attendance and Prices

There has been a lot of talking about the prices etc. All I can say is that I
bet Ken has done his homework.

To my mind there are 4 factors here. There are the straightforward multiples
of Price v No of attendees. There are the extra sales of pies, drinks etc,
which they must be able to work out an average of how much a supporter spends
on these. There is the cost of opening an extra stand eg east upper, extra
refreshment bars etc, which must only be worthwhile if it is going to be a
certain percentage full.

Lastly there is human nature.

I'm not standing up for him, but he may feel that these price-cuts are a good
thing to do occasionally. I assume he is going to try to balance it against a)
The feelings of season-ticket holders. He doesn't want to piss them off too
much. Also there will be a law of diminishing returns on this. Many of those
who take advantage of the cheaper games would be those who attend 5 or 6 games
a season. Some will go to an extra match, others will just go to that one
instead of another.

I think the balance of 3-4 reduced price games a season is about right. It
will piss off the ST holders, but not too much, and I agree that they should
get something worthwhile out of it too. It will get extra people (=more
atmosphere) at some matches which would not be well attended otherwise. They
will sell more stuff in the ground too. There is also the likelihood that
occasional visitors are more likely to buy shirts and stuff from the shop.
Somebody who goes twice a season may well make a substantial purchase from the
shop every time, whereas the season-ticket holder may only go in the shop 3-4
times a year.

Dropping prices overall by a third would defnitely get more people through the
gates, but I bet Ken or his people have worked out that it would also mean a
drop in revenue overall.

KOT.
