The situation most likely had nothing to do with you, but the situation is
as you wanted it (the hmrc challenge went ahead as you wanted) and you
certainly didn’t help matters did you.

But anyway, HMRC need more cash to sort out their systems as apparently they
have discrepancies in more than 13million computerised tax records.

To try and catch up last year they allocated £38m to hire an extra 1250
clerical staff.  They say they hoped this will cut it down to 6m but
according to a parliamentary reply the number is more than twice that.

As I said, they need all the money they can get to fix problems that, if
they were efficient, wouldn’t exist.
