The design of macs is an added bonus, but not the reason I use them. I have used them for around 15 years now, and have not once seen any reason to change. I have an old clamshell iBook that is now about 5 years old and it has never broken down once in that whole time. My older iMac has also worked very well. The pcs and laptops I use at work (dell...g*d what a heap of shite) break down, slow down, freeze, whatever all the time.
Design is considered an anathema to many (ie if you have a mac you must be somehow less than a real man) and people use that against many things including macs. For me it is just part and parcel of the thought that goes into a computer that is elegant both in looks and the way it works.
