That seems to concern itself with safe standing areas though, ie a return to
terraces, which I agree with in principle, but would not wish to be on terraces
myself, and seems to be shouted down by Scousers who seem to see it as
trampling on the Hillsboro dead ! I am talking about the present all seater
stadia being allowed to let fans stand up in certain sections. I have read the
Trafford Borough independent report which basically said that although not
designed for standing it was 99.99% safe for fans to stand and that any
injuries sustained would be very minor and only involve single people (ie not
lots of fans trampled \ crushed). It even said that the practice of sitting
down and then jumping up when action on the pitch was exciting was more unsafe.
I have been known to point out to stewards that I have to sit down during
the game when everyone is basically stationery , at least from waist down (ie
maybe clapping \ singing) but it is OK \ safe to stand up at half time when
people are walking around and going past with hot drinks etc.
My other complaint with ER is the way the stewards actually behave towards
fans and the 'bouncers' we now employ to threaten intimidate fans for minor
infringements, when the fans are 'customers' without whom the business would
not exist.
It appears that the club are quite happy to have their employees, who are, in
theory, there for our safety and convenience hated by many. They refused to
alllow the big shirt to be paraded over the Revie Stand because they feared
that fans may take the opportunity to assault a steward ! Every other business
tries to have their employees and customers on friendly terms - even nightclubs
send bouncers on customer relations courses etc.
Any number of well mannered, decent , polite fans round me are heard shouting
abuse at certain stewards and the whole situation . Whats that chant again "Get
a proper job !"

I am sure everything would be much better for all if fans could stand in
certain sections without being hassled - as I said before I have been to any
number of concerts in seated arenas where standing up is perfectly acceptable.
We have a reputation for standing at away games, and have had lesser
allocations as a result, but I have not seen one single Leeds fans injured as a
result or even heard anyone saying that they or a friend etc have been hurt
because they were stood up !!

75,000 ManU fans were described by their own manager as having a morgue like
atmosphere and that is what will kill football in the end !! No astmosphere, no
fun , no fans !!

  Dave
safe standing have been on the case for years but support from the
stands is sadly lacking.............
