John,

That was Beckford's worse performance of the season.
His control was appalling and he just looked like an
amateur at times, falling over and trying things that
just didn't come off BUT he scored and he also worked
very hard. That'll do for me at this level.

I too armchaired it and overall I was pleased with the
result cos I've been to Crewe on the last 2 night
matches and seen us get beat with better teams so as
Dave says any sort of result will do. I can understand
why you thought the passing was poor at times but I
think we're trying to play football and we are getting
a team of players who maybe given time can play their
way into the championship. In that first half we had
something like 70% posession which was good but then
again their keeper never made a save.
I don't think we can grumble to omuch .... but I'm
going to.
I thought we were poor second half. First half I
thought Flo linked up the play between midfield and
attack and very rarely gave the ball away (he should
have scored though !) I thought it was good of Wise to
use Flo as an example to Beckford in terms of control
and lay off. Simple things that some footballers find
hard. Second half we just kept losing the ball and
started playing on the break. Easy passes suddenly
became difficult and it's the same offenders - Prutton
and Richardson.
I thought the defence looked dodgy as fuck all night,
especially Huntington who looked very shaky. I don't
really read too much into this given it's their first
game together - I always htink back to Gary Pallister
at ssum and our own Chris Fairclough who looked like
they couldn't defend at first. I think Huntington
needs appearances and with it will come confidence. As
for Kenton , yes he was more impressive but he didn't
get his defensive headers in for set pieces. Good on
the groudn though. Parker is another Harte for me -
good at doing all the things a defender shouldn't be
good at but when it comes to defending questions have
to be asked. Wait till he gets a decent test.
The midfield did ok but Kilkenny wasn't as
instrumental and looked a bit leg heavy at times and
Hughes is always limited if not committed. Sweeney
looks like a bit of a luxury player to me - nice left
foot, nice crossing but not going to exert himself too
much. Prutton again has some good moments and then
disappoints you.
As for Johnson - just looked like a big lump to me.

Got to be happy at the end of the day.

Bring on Donny. They've got the SOuth stand apparently
- that's not good news historically.
