IMHO cuddly Ken is playing this absolutely right.

As far as I see it he has two options.

The first of which is to state that we are considering cashing in on him and be 
prepared for his agent to play a blinder and sell him for £3.99 and a jammie 
wagon wheel.

Or

He does as he's doing and issues firm hands off messages after getting him to 
sign a 4 year contract (blinding bit of business). The only point for debate 
from here is whether or not KB is actually just setting the ground for the sale 
of the century in January or if he's actually serious about keeping the kid.

If he is keeping him - then it remains to be seen if Fabians resolve to stay 
with us remains steady under the onslaught that he's bound to get from agents 
prem managers etc.
