I fully agree with Richard.
Bates has given the managers all the support they have
wanted and, it appears, has left them to it.
Until now, I never had any time for Bates. I always saw him
as too sharp and one-sided but he has done well for LU. The
accounts reflect the current values of the young players coming
through and, when compared to the valuations of the Ridsdale
and :Leighton era, they seem quite modest rather than inflated.
What is missing is a manager who knows how to get promotion
from the third division. It is not money that is required but players
who know, and can operate in, the division. It brings to mind the
methods used by the Don to get us out of the old 2nd Division.
He went for solid Div 2 players from the likes of Rotherham who,
at that time, were permanent fixtures in the 2nd. Very little outlay
was required and, when success came, they were expendable. He
used the same methodology in the old 1st. Bobby Collins being the
classic example. Time to go for the glitz when success is achieved.
I know times are frustrating but, Betty, I cannot see what is to be gained
by having a pop at Bates. It is on a par with Michael B when he has
forgotten to take his tablet :-) In fact, Betty, I would ask you who you
would exchange Bates for ? Realistically, of course !!!
I wish all Listers and Fans a Peaceful Christmas and a Healthy and
Successful 2009.
regards, Michael (D'sD)

. I would love it to have been Bates's fault (although he wouldn't gone, of
course!), but he appointed a favourite son of the club who showed real
signs
of delivering great football. He just didn't deliver consistency, which is
the true hallmark of professionalism in sport.
I have no great love for Bates. But while we've had to live through the
indignity of relegation and failure in the play-offs, that's a
dressing-room
issue, not a board-room one. And while the accounts may well inflate the
value of players (intagibles are a sore point for lots of sectors, not
just
football, mind),
