Well as has already been said this was an impressive performance as we have
seen this season. We defended with commitment passion and no little skill. The
leadership qualities of Naylor are exactly what we have been missing and his
enthusiasm rubbed off on those around him, Rui and Casper both looked like the
good players they have proved to be in the past. He helped out Hughes in an
unaccustomed position for  him and was backed up by Dickinson who certainly got
stuck in (some of his distribution was poor mind you and I cannot see him as a
Premiership player)

In answer to Rich pre match about who I wanted to see in the team I wrote
"If fit - not worth risking if any doubt - Beckford must start he is our best
striker. I think he will go for Becchio alongside him for his workrate and the
fact that it is a partnership that has worked well earlier in the season. I
think a pairing of Trundle and Beckford whilst it has its attractions would not
"defend from the front" as he wants"
Well I think yesterday shows that I do know what I am talking about - Beckford
proved once again in 30mins he is our talisman and our best player and that we
struggle without him on the pitch. Him and Trundle were only on the pitch
together for 22mins and yet we scored 2 goals in that time !! A partnership
that may be made in football heaven Trundles skill and vision allied to
Beckfords pace and ability to find the net.
The goals were all different the first a decent free kick by the largely
anonymous Johnson (he is not our saviour - for me I would have Snodgrass ahead
of him every time) was spilled and Becks reacted to tap in the rebound. second
Trundle held the ball up and played an exquisite ball through to Beckford who
finished with style. Then just when it was possible we would throw it all away
Howson was clean through but instead of scoring he passed it to Snodgrass - a
terrible ball behind him- but Snoddy never gave it up and chased it and put it
back across to Howson who this time did finish.
Their goal was scrappy but at least they had to fight to get it in after it hit
the bar and we did not just stand there like statues.
Overall a really good end to end game - they are a good side and though I don't
accept Fergiescum Juniors " we have never been so comfortable" " we passed them
off the park" quotes they certainly did run us close - still Darren you can
always go home and take it out of the missus eh ?
I would not really like to meet them at Wembley in the play offs but I thought
we did just about deserve to win on the balance of play.
So, pity we could not keep a clean sheet but we are getting there and with
another home game on Tuesday we can really put a run together. It is only Cat C
so all those fans who moan about prices will be out in force to give us a
bumper crowd - yeah right!

We will see what new players the last week of the transfer window will bring
but Grayson has picked three good loan players in Naylor, Trundle and Dickinson
and lets hope they all extend their loans.

Very happy today and looking forward to Tuesday

Dave
