Completely agree Dave. I think this is the most surprising aspect for me. Usually the most problematic positions for a manager happen when he can't get continuity with the central defensive partnership. Last season under Macca our central defenders didn't seem to have a clue but under Grayson it seems whoever plays there has a good game. We look really solid. Lubo, who looked like a broken man under Macca can come in to the team, and look solid. Is just the confidence of a winning team, or the knowledge of a manager or the team defending as a whole or the influence of experienced pros like Richard Naylor ? Maybe a bit of all of those. Its very impressive though.
Did anyone go to Brighton? I've just seem the goals. Eddie Gray and his counterpart didn't go too ott about them which is suprising 'cos the first two were unbelievably good goals. Snodgrass's strike was one of the best this season and Kilkenny's pass to Beckford and his finish were two of the best executions you'll ever see. I hope Kilkenny keeps in the team. ----- Original Message ---- From: DAVID NATTAN <[email protected]> To: list leedslist <[email protected]> Sent: Sun, 22 November, 2009 17:28:41 Subject: [LU] our defence I was just thinking how brilliant our defence has been this season - only 8 conceded in 16 games and only Millwall have managed to score more than one against us (and one of theirs should not have been allowed) and when you think how soft we were at the back (especially with set pieces) under Mcallister. What is even stranger is that we have done this with our number one left back missing after the first game and being replaced with a right sided midfield player. Add to that the fact that our best keeper has been missing for a while (and Casper has kept a clean sheet in the last 3 games). Our first choice right back has also been missing (Crowe) and replaced with a central defender (Bromby) in many games. In fact we have not really had a settled back five, with Naylor missing a few with injury and Kisnorbo a couple because of international call ups. IF our first choice back 5 is Higgs, Crowe, Naylor, Kisnorbo, Parker - only one them played on Saturday, away from home in awful conditions and we still kept a clean sheet !! Pretty remarkable, and it is not as if we have done this the George Graham way by defending for 89mins and never scoring - we are up there with the top scorers in the Division.
