CHAIRMAN ENJOYS ELLAND ROAD QUESTION TIME
 21 Apr 2010
Leeds United chairman Ken Bates headed up the panel at the final Lorimer's Bar
of the season on Tuesday evening.
The chairman was joined byAndrew Hughes, Neil Kilkenny, and the club's CEO
Shaun Harvey for a night of questions and answers.
"Nights like this are important," said the chairman. "I'm not sure many clubs
do it.
"I visited Dublin recently for an On The Road event, and we hold Lorimer's Bar
events at Elland Road every month.
"There were some serious questions asked and some very perceptive ones, and it
was a great evening."
The chairman was asked about the implications of Fabian Delph's long-term
injury at Aston Villa in terms of any outstanding transfer monies owed to Leeds.
It was explained that some of the fee was based around the players appearances
and speaking toYorkshire Radio after the event he stressed that the player's
recovery was of more importance that any future payments.
"Nobody wants to see a player seriously injured and we wish him luck," he said.
"We have received a proportion of the guaranteed element of the fee with the
rest being due in the future, an eighth goes to Bradford City, but that really
is of secondary importance.
"This is when you find your character and he will pick himself up and dust
himself down."
Questoons were also asked about the club's promotion bid, which took a blow at
Gillingham last weekend following a 3-2 reverse.
"Andrew Hughes and Neil Kilkenny were both very honest in their answers," added
the chairman. "They couldn't believe the performance themselves.
"We came back from 3-0 to 3-2, but it wasn't quite enough. Other clubs are
facing other problems and were still one point ahead.
"Charlton lost to Norwich, Swindon are stuttering after looking like a runaway
train, and Millwall of course lost at Huddersfield. It shows how things change.
"But I know our players are up for it - there's a huge spirit in the camp - and
the fans are up for it. The support is unbelievable."
