It almost sounds as if we were really desperate to sell Delph and we accepted any terms that Villa offered. He was the hottest property on the market and we should have got a great deal for him. Sounds like we didn't and accepted a minimum guaranteed fee followed by money based on appearances. It was obvious he wasn't going to play that many games for Villa. What a fuck up. Bad deal for Leeds, bad deal for Delph. ----- Original Message ---- From: Sean Emmott <[email protected]> To: Graham Thirkill <[email protected]> Cc: LEEDS LIST <[email protected]> Sent: Thu, 22 April, 2010 9:31:03 Subject: Re: [LU] Our Chairman > CHAIRMAN ENJOYS ELLAND ROAD QUESTION TIME > 21 Apr 2010 > Leeds United chairman Ken Bates headed up the panel at the final Lorimer's > Bar of the season on Tuesday evening. <<snip>> > The chairman was asked about the implications of Fabian Delph's long-term > injury at Aston Villa in terms of any outstanding transfer monies owed to > Leeds. > It was explained that some of the fee was based around the players > appearances and speaking toYorkshire Radio after the event he stressed > that the player's recovery was of more importance that any future > payments. > "Nobody wants to see a player seriously injured and we wish him luck," he > said. > "We have received a proportion of the guaranteed element of the fee with > the rest being due in the future, an eighth goes to Bradford City, but > that really is of secondary importance. <<snip>> That's an interesting interview, because at the meeting, and at the one in Dublin, he said we hadn't received any money for Delph yet. Mind you, he got mixed up in court about whether he owned Leeds United or not, so I suppose this slip of the tongue is entirely forgivable. - Sean _______________________________________________ the Leeds List is an unmoderated mailing list and the list administrators accept no liability for the personal views and opinions of contributors.
