I lived in the US for 30 years before moving back to the UK and never became a citizen. When my green card was stolen and I had to go and get a new one, the Immigration & Naturalization people teated me like shit when I went to their office for something very simple. And they were treating me better than others. That made me decide not to do it, even after my son was born. Then when W got power, I couldn't put my hand on my heart and say I believe in America. But as to paying US taxes, there's a reciprocal agreement between UK and US; if you pay taxes to one, you don't have to to the other, and US taxes are a lot less.
pluses - get to vote - don't get treated like shit if bad things happen - easy travel back and forth with 2+ passports minuses - will have to pay US taxes in perpetuity no matter where you live - costs about $500 to get it done _______________________________________________ the Leeds List is an unmoderated mailing list and the list administrators accept no liability for the personal views and opinions of contributors.
