WHAT a night in Sydney!!!
PROMOTED!!!! GOING UP... LEEDS ARE GOING UP!
There are always going to be those moments that you will never forget as a fan,
and Saturday night at Cheers Bar was one of those moments I will never forget,
EVER.
First of all, the commitment of someone the people that showed up was simply
incredible, with one of the lads FLYING down from Brisbane for the meet-up,
Marcus got a 3 hour train down to Sydney from Newcastle for the game, another
lad come over an hour and a half from Wollongong, and numerous others (Ian and
Harry etc) came from all over NSW to get together at Cheers for this pivital
match! There was about 30 of us by kick off, a great crowd by this season's
standards!!
I don't know who was the more nervous, but pre-match, the talk was light
hearted and it was good to all catch up... the game then kicked off, and with
the big screen coming down, and the volume going up, it was all go...
Elland Road was a sight to see, and the noise from the crowd was coming through
loud and clear down under in Sydney!
Gradel's sending off stunned us all... and that sinking feeling was all too
familiar... Was this going to be another night where the referee puts his name
into the history books for all the wrong reasons? NOT again, surely?????
Then they scored. Was this it? Another season in this division? Stunned
silence. And the sinking feeling just getting worse...
BUT THEN.... HOWSON COMES ON.... WE KEEP PRESSING... BECKFORD INTO THE
AREA....BECCHIO LAYS IT OFF...AND HOWSON
SCORES..............................!!!!!
CUE massive celebrations, as the tension exploded in the pub, C'MON LEEDS! WE
CAN DO THIS!!!
And just four minutes later.... three years of disapointment and struggle in
League 1... BECKFORD scores!!!!!!!!!!!!
I have been at some big games over the years, and gone mental... but this
topped it all. Chairs were going everywhere, people were falling all over the
place, and THAT FEELING, that we had FINALLY turned the corner... that nothing
could stop us now... that we WERE GOING UP!!!!!
It was a fecking awesome night, and it would have not been anything without the
fans that were there. I was proud to be there with some great lads, and to
share that moment. I will never forget it.
And now we can enjoy the World Cup, spend our summers ENJOYING football, and
look forward to Championship football... and RELAX.
Its been a stressful few months for Leeds fans all over the world.. but we are
on the way back now.
