Magnate bits are the way to go, and gently honing with a diamond stone keeps
them going a LONG TIME, in 8 years I have only had 2 1.25" bits and would
still be using my first if I had set my stop correctly and not hit my head
stock!!!

yes I knew I heard it some were, what I do is use other bits I get cheaper 
to rough out then I use the magnate bit to finish this saves undue work on 
my good magnate bit
