Hello Norm.
Yes I've been testing this for four days now. I was using a flat bottom bit, and turner a number of sized spindles round. just taking square stock and making it round. to see how well it works. The RPM is unknown, but it turns I would say 80-90 RPM.(based on my lathe slowest speed which is 125rpm) the finish is really nice, my spindles look like they were sanded with 220 grip sand paper. Yes I was moving the carriage very slowly and the spindle was moving right along. (I set the limit switches and went to work on another job while they were cutting. When I came back the cuts look great! I am very pleased with the motor drive so far. So far I've cut a small teak spindle, a 2" spalted maple spindle, a spalted Oak spindle,(the maple and oak were from a shipping crate that I found.) I also turned a plywood spindle. all turned much better than what I could do with the gears alone. I still plan to do some template (side cutting) with this motor spindle drive.and well as some other old projects "dreams" that I have had on hold, until now.
More to come latter,
Its past my bed time.
Have a good night.
C.A.G.

Looks very functional. Have you put it into action yet?
