Roger,

I had to take another look at your sketch. I see what you're doing now. I think 
you're right on as this is the way to go.

So I'm clear, I would rip a series of spacers all the same size and line them 
up on 2 pieces of wood (the spacing between them being the width of my piece) 
at a 45 deg angle. Then nail down every other one so i have equal spacing. Then 
all i have to play with is the depth of the bit which will take a few practice 
cuts on some scrap.

I was thinking i could still do this on the router table though by flipping the 
entire jig upside down and mounting the router bushing on my router table. The 
only reason i would do it this way is for dust control (it's better on my 
router table) as well as ease of controlling router depth. Is there anything 
i'm missing?
