Good morning Jerry (and everyone.) 5/8" hole 3" deep, I don't see what it couldn't, even a normal plunge router most have a 3" plunge depth. CAN it do it? most defiantly, but is the Legacy the best tool for the job? I honestly don't know, I think a drill press would be the best choice for this job, Using a high speed router bit to bore a hole may not give you the best control?and the set up and safety factor of one? that up to you. NOW if you want to set up a large piece of wood and cut a series of holes 5/8"x3" deep to make a number of these duck calls?and then cut the wood into pieces using the band saw before turning, I would say The Legacy might be a good choice.
I would love to see your Duck calls, (if you could post some pictures, it would be nice.) Making a Duck call something that I've not tried to make before. How is it done? do you drill out the wood and then insert a call into the wood, much like making a pen? or is it more like making a whistle? (with an air chamber???) I hope you have a good day, C.A.G. ----- Original Message ----- From: Jerry's Custom Calls To: legacy-ornamental-mills@googlegroups.com Sent: Friday, April 05, 2013 8:03 AM Subject: Re: Ornamental Mills Around the World Good Morning Tim and the rest of the group. Thanks for the "tease" to get me started with making a post or two. It's not that I have been too shy to post anything I have been a bit overwhelmed with the Aspire software and Mach3 software that I need to learn to use prior to playing with the new / old 1200. Right now I do not know where to start with asking questions; I don't even know what to ask! I need to learn how to crawl before I walk so I did purchase a few small pieces of cheap wood last night so hopefully I will find the time and courage to at least make some saw dust this weekend. One general question I have....os it possible to use the 1200 to drill or bore a 5/8 hole 3 inches deep (making duck calls)? I'll let the group know how it goes provided I get a chance play with it. I know we have had owners of the performance and standard cnc upgrade in the list so this is my tease to get Jerry to say hello :-). -Tim -- You received this message because you are subscribed to the Google Groups "Legacy Ornamental Mills" group.
