@jeff...agree!.. in today's economy, a lot of companies are willing to take
on work with less restrictions than they previously had...so getting the
rails made might be more feasible...although it would give my machine a
cleaner look when done, i do not feel it is absolutely necessary to go
through the expense to have one piece rails...the base we are making is
going to be like a rock!...straight and true in all planes...17" tall by
20" deep...a total of 12 pieces of 3/4" baltic birch plywood, 16" tall, all
on edge...so simply putting the machine on this base solves the problem of
sagging...we made a scale model of the base in the shop and it is very
strong, on all planes...with the added bonus of being able to come apart(it
is over 15 ft. when assembled), for future transportation ...the bed is a
different problem though...there i intend to add some 1 1/2' square
aluminum tubing with a 1/4" wall to the underside of the bed
rail...certainly over the joint, but most likely a bit more to stiffen up
the bed rails...i will most likely lose some tapering adjustment, but i can
live with that...even if i am on an uneven floor, the base will not
"rack"(i.e. twist) out of shape...legacy solved this problem on the 2000 by
building that massive steel base...but their's did not come apart so
transporting it was a problem...and the one i am building will be 16ft.
overall(15ft. bet. centers), so i wanted to use a wood engineered
design...but i would like to find that extrusion for other reasons!...so if
anyone out there has any info regarding where to get it made, or perhaps
the original manufacturer, please pass that info along and let's see it is
an option...thanks for the input jeff...joe biunno
