Hi Milt
Over the years I sold well past a thousand of the Router Technologies Xtreme
Xtensions; they work without any problems if you follow Bob McFarlin’s clear
instructions that are on the packaging BUT IT WILL GIVE YOU ONLY ABOUT 1¼” of
extension and not the 1½” plus you want. Some of the cheap extensions work, but
I question their dynamic balance plus I believe in quality and safety.

tables-platters

Does any one have experience or recommendations on using collet extender on
LOM. I'm using a Porter Cable 7518 body with a quick attach collet. I am using
a large DIA (2 & 3") planer bits - bottom and side cutting and have concern for
rotational stability. I'm setting rotational speed at 10,000 rpm but when unit
is first turned on it starts at 16000 or higher and settles to 10k. I'm trying
to extend 1 1/2 - 2" lower than I can achieve with the conventional bit. In put
would be appreciated.

  Hello Curtis,

I’m in Northville, NY on the shores of the Great Sacandaga Lake, you or any
LOM bloggers are more than welcome to help yourselves to the mill or I’d be
glad to custom cut anything with a warning that wood working is an addiction
and you never have enough tools.

  Hello Milt,

I have a portable band saw mill that I use for such purposes, it will get the
slab(s) perfectly parallel and leave a finish that can be smoothed out with a
random orbital or belt sander, but my mill only has a 36” width capacity so you
may have to ask around.

I have several large English and Black Walnut slabs that I would like to
reduce to tables and large format furniture items and I would like to poll the
group on a project that I am working on to flatten these slabs (photo
attached). As an example this slab is a full three inches thick and measures
at the max 72” for corner to corner and 40 “ wide. Due to its size, I do not
want to use a hand plane to surface the slab and, therefore was thinking of
using LOM to do the job. Anyone have suggestions. I am presently using an
1800 with Z axis, and with motor drive on X axis. I have the circular table
accessory however it is a bit out small for this project. Your input and
experience would desire. Thanks

  Milt
