The original rack and pinion set up was different for each length machine.  It
came in sections and you just bolted it to the machine.  It did make a big
difference.  How long is the 2000 I want to think it is ten foot.  Was legacy
willing to sell you conversational cam.  They have a new version coming out
soon.  One other issue I feel you will run Into is you will need a computer
that uses a parrel port for a printer

Subject: Re: legacy "performance" cnc upgrade...questions

hey guys!...jeff, thanks for the response...tim did send me what i might think
is the original manual...it is different than the manual i do have and the one
i have seems to be an updated version...pictures were blurred out on the
download from tim, but i think i can make a go of it...i am considering setting
this up on that model 2000 that is still listed on ebay(hey!,as the saying
goes, "go big or go home!"...LOL!)...negotiating now, let's see how it
goes...and not even sure if that older cnc package upgrade can work on a 2000,
since it was originally intended for the 1800...seems logical that there would
not be any issues...tim, thanks for the download...what i might ask any members
out there in legacy land is how much does the rack and pinion speed things up
in comparison to the original direct drive set up legacy originally came out
with?...i might guess it is a substantial difference but better to get an
actual user's opinion...and i guess i could get some rack from MCM but then the
work starts...and contrary to what some might think, i am currently not in the
mood to do a lot of custom mod work to a new machine set-up...and also, would
the MCM racks have to match the original legacy racks, so that the software is
in sync with steppers and the MCM rack?...is the racking sold in specific sizes
and standards, very much like roller chain is?...if it is then it certainly can
be matched up to the legacy spec's...here's a shot in the dark, anyone out
there have any of this racking from legacy for sale?...perhaps they had the
legacy cnc package and then upgraded to something different/better and now do
not have a use for the older stuff(hey!, i can dream, can't i?)...and in regard
to the "modified setup of mach-3", if it is going to help someone improve their
legacy equipment/software, then why wouldn't they make it available to a legacy
owner(for a price, of course)...anyway, i will call  and ask them and i might
think they would help out as i have found them to be very helpful in the
past...thanks guys!...joe
