Hello and good morning Don
Try to stay away from silicone, Yes it will make the Legacy move better, but
the silicone can damage the woods you are cutting, as far as adding a finish.
As far as the smooth finish. If you are using the gears, a slight spiral ridge
isnt so bad, The best way that Ive found to get a smooth round surface is to
have the spindle move faster and the carriage move slower. Before I added a
spindle drive motor to my system, I use to spin the spindle by hand and have
the carriage/router move slowly by the use of the motor drive unit. the spindle
dose not have to move fast, just faster than what the gears will do.
I use to think that the Legacy could be a modern Barns lathe.
The pedals control the spindle and the motor controls the linear movement, you
will get a very smooth round spindle this way, and from there... Anything is
possible. ;-)

"O" as far as your buttons? I'm not sure, but it would not hurt to check out
Joann's fabrics or someplace like that, If they don't carry snaps, you could
always try a tent and awning place?
I wish you luck on this one. I personally let the chips fly... But I do have a
screen that I made that works very well to control the flying chips they all
just pile up in rows under my machine, but that's another topic. ;-)
Have a great day.

Thanks Curtis,
I saw the dynaglide lubricant on the Legacy website but didn't buy any yet.
I'll get some dynaglide and try it. It's the X axis is giving me a little too
much restriction. The Y axis (carrier tray) isn't too bad. When I got the
machine, I cleaned out the saw dust from all the rails and used WD40 to clean
off any residue, then wiped it down and sprayed on a silicone spray. I have
pretty much disassembled and reassembled most joints by now and had to do a bit
of filing here and there to make things fit like they should.
I milled my first piece of stock round the other day. It wasn't as smooth as I
had hoped. There was a definite spiral ridge the whole length of the now round
stock, I'd estimate about 1-2 thousandths. I then used a side flute router bit
and made 24 flutes. Now that was actually pretty impressive.

Last question for the day. This unit came with the canvas drape to catch the
sawdust. For some reason the buttons to attach it too are missing/not
installed. Where can I get these snap buttons and is it worth the effort?
Thanks,
Don
