Don’t worry we have all done plenty of those my kindling pile is quite large in the corner of the shop some times
That’s the beauty of woodworking even the mess-ups are useful they warm us when it’s cold. Looks like your cut was a little too deep, lots of light cuts is the go when template cutting from the side. I like people who post their pitfalls as well as their triumphs.
