Well dead end for me this, I ran it through the check out to see how much shipping would be to me
And they won’t ship the motor outside the usa I would have got one of those if the shipping was not too much. I’m still looking for a motor for my mill But with the dollar exchange now from America being so high now I sure wish I could have got one a couple of years ago when your dollar and ours were almost the same now I pay like 25% more for everything. As another motor choice for the spindle motor that is off the shelf and easily available is a dc motor designed for lathe motor replacement from Penn State Industries. It can be modified to go slower than it is originally setup for. The shaft is a metric size which might hinder finding a suitable pulley here in the USA. Oh and the reason for a DC instead of an AC motor with a speed control added you don’t loose grunt when you turn the speed control down slow. The lead screw drive is a 90 volt DC gear motor. speed 0-60 rpm but for most cut I run the speed slow (10- 30 rpm?) I have an 82;1 gear ratio, with a 500lbs lift. My motor is a bit of an over kill, but I got it as a part of a horse trade a few years back... the transph... is a KB electronics for E-bay. ;-) So I did mine on the cheap. By the way I'm glad you like the chain, its a timing chain and gears from an Audi. My motor sits side saddle off form the rails by the use of a door hinge and bolt to take up the slop in the chain. The spindle drive motor is an AC motor 0-240rpm, and I have it on a rheostat the speed that I normally run the machine is something like 80rpm. For sanding I speed it up a bit... The motor is mounted off of the work bench, and the belt is gravity only, the pulley is 12" and I made a slot in the shaft to mount up to the Legacy's drive hub. I would have a hard time using the Legacy with out the motors today, I feel its a must. (at least for me.) I only have one stop on my machine, since I only cut form one direction, (tail to head-stock.) I find I don't really need two. You do not have to copy what I have to make your Legacy work, but what ever you use, make sure you can control the speed, slower is better, even for the spindle drive. Before I made my motors... I use to think of a Barns lathe TYPE OF MACHINE. Pedal power. I think with some gears and... a pedal powered Legacy could work out pretty nice. ;-) Just an idea! have a good night. Thanks again for the info On Sunday, June 19, 2016 at 11:54:46 PM UTC-4, BRUCE TAYLOR wrote: I recently picked up a legacy 1200 mill and I am looking forward to getting it put together and using it to do some projects, I want to make some posts and other ornate items, I bought a showboat cmc 5x12 about 6 years ago and use regularly in my cabinet and countertop business, wanted to buy a mill then but never got around to it, so when I had the opportunity to pick up one I jumped at the chance. I am interested in adding the drive motor to it, I see some people have added other aftermarket options, I would like to know what suggestions as to the pros and cons of adding the drive s are, I added a 36" cmc indexer to my cmc bur have not used it much. Thanks in advance for the help. -- You received this message because you are subscribed to the Google Groups "Legacy Ornamental Mills" group.
