mine is 40 1/4 and I am 6'2'' ,. you want to be able to lean over and see the bit on your material. I think the 40 in is good , I also have a shelf at the bottom that I put stuff on which puts the difference at 33 in, you will need that when you do any mortise and tenon work vertically.
