ok, some additional points... you could ship FedEx, up to 108 inches... so 
that should get you 8 ft. pcs. easily... I would stick to the delrin nuts, 
as using a brass nut would certainly last longer than a delrin nut, but you 
would be taking a chance that the brass nut could wear out the acme rod... 
yes, the brass is softer than the steel, but it is still metal on metal... 
and if anyone did buy a 12 ft. length of rod, and shipped it 9 and 3(+/-), 
you could take a 4" piece of rod off the 3 ft. piece and make a tap from 
it... it is not difficult, as this is what I did to make a tap and make my 
own black nuts for my Legacy machine... material purchased from 
McMasterCarr, and was very inexpensive and it was the size I needed 
dimensionally, so I only had to drill the tap hole... the work was very 
quick and very easy... there is a posting on this groups page covering this
