Hello Everyone.
Another 2 day work shift for me. Dan I know with pulley's the size will effect
the rotation. Im not so sure its the same with gears?  I do know that Iam
planning to work with a machine that behaves very much like a spirograph. But
first things first, the oval before a pretty patterns. ;-)But Please if you
think you can make something like what you are thinking aboutPlease do so.  the
concept is entreating to me.As a side Note: I find it funny that Men back in
the 1700's and 1800's could make machines that today most people can not
phantom how they did what they did?
Just a few more days and I will have to time to "Play" Again .  ;-)
Have a good night.

What I'm curious about by mentioning different number of teeth on planetary
and sun gears is the modularity of the rotations.  If they havethe same number,
after one rotation the second rotation will travel
the same path.  If the number of teeth are different by as little as one,
methinks the path of the second rotation will be different than the first, the
third different than the second etc. until the number of rotations isa multiple
of the two gear tooth numbers.  Think Spirograph.  ???
Yes, it's nice to work in a shop where the greatest threat is my own
stupidity followed by recluse spiders.

Hey Guys.

No poisonous snakes or bugs any where around here Bill. ;-)

But on the flip side, the Cold can kill you as fast as any snake can.

the quote stating that , Discretion is the better part of valor is very true.

I too want this jig done and ready to show everyone. But I have to wait,
perhaps next weekend?

I can only Hope and Pray. ;-)

Woops.

part of this message did not show up...

Here is the hole message. (second try!)

Hello Everyone.

It's -5 outside today. (Thanks Tim, for sending Bill some cold air, it hit my
area in its way to Auz. ) ;-p

Since my shop is un-heated, (I use a propane heater to heat the shop when I'm
working, But today

its just to cold to go out there and try to heat the shop.)

This is a reply that I gave to a private e-mail Explaining what I was doing/
how this jig works.

I think everyone will enjoy this info.

The Planetary gear system is the concept that I am using to make this jig work.

The "Sun" Gear is pinned to the tables supports, (It dose not move with the
table.)

The Planet gear is fixed to the table. so it moves around the sun gear when the
table turns.

the planet gear has a fixed pin on it. so as it moves the arm moves the table.
thus making an

oval as the table turns. I am using my Legacy/overhead router for the cutting.
(at this time.)

I Hope the photo's help explain what is happening here?

photo 1 shows the "Sun" gear lifted up, a post, is running through the ball
bearing center. (its pined under the table, to keep it form moving .)

photo 2 shows the linkage. (as the table moves the planate gear rotates moving
the pin, making the table move back and forth as the planate turns around the
sun gear.)

Photo3  shows the planate gear/pin and table with linear rails.

Photo's 4&5 show the over all set-up on my Legacy (Ornamental Mill.)

Hello Frank.

The planetary gear has a is fixed  pin at this min.  But I will be able to make
it adjustable latter.

At this time there is a 2" off-set.

The table is disposable, there are only 4 screw holding it down onto the slides.

I am using linear slides for the table. (in two photo's I used drawer slide
they worked but they got in the way of my Legacy side rails. so I replaced
them.)

If all goes well, I will be making an oval picture frame, and latter some small
bowls.

talk to you and everyone more latter.
