Kirstin,

Yes, Thunderbird will group Messages. The term they use in Thunderbird though is Threads. Look on the view Menu for the Threads Item or, in the Message Header Pane there is a column heading just to the left of the attachments heading. To me it looks like a little grey balloon like in a comic. Click on that and the messages will be organized by Threads.

It is not perfect though since if someone who wants to post a message clicks reply to a message then changes the subject line Thunderbird will still treat the message a part of the same thread instead of as new thread.

Is there a way to "Group messages by conversation" in Thunderbird. That would be really helpful.

Marion,

I'm curious. If you filter the messages off into a folder, you can scan the subject lines whenever you have time -- once a day, once a week, etc. The scanning is even easier if you 'Group messages by conversation' (Outlook Express terminology). Flag the keepers and delete the rest in bulk. Is that not easier than reading through a single, long digest e-mail?

Subject: [Bulk] [LegacyUG] New procedure - unsubscribe

Sorry, but I will be one that will be unsubscribing. I can't stand to get fifty million individual messages, whether from Legacy or Rootsweb or anything else.. When I want to find something out, I will just have to go hunting in the archives.
  Thanks, Marion
