Hi Janis,
Various systems for organising paper files have been discussed in Legacy News.
See
http://legacynews.typepad.com/legacy_news/organization/index.html
and other links on that page.
I'm sure one of them is the MRIN system. My own system is close to
the "Third Approach" mentioned there. I don't use MRINs. When I tried
a family based filing system I got very little filing done as I just
produced piles of things that either needed to be copied so they
could go in more than one file or marked on a reference sheet in
other file so I could find it if I went looking in the wrong family.
Some of my friends however can't work without family files. We're all
different.

I don't need to enter them manually - I just thought there were two
ways to do it, and I don't have the slightest handle on this
function - having never used it at all. I have been carefully about
entering and sourcing info, and I have been careful to preserve
documents, but they are in no particular order. It's time for me to
buckle down and organize the paper side of things.
What does MRIN stand for? I know it is the reference number that
most people attach to their documents.
If there is somewhere that I could read up on this, I would be glad
to do it. I thought perhaps someone had a good website on the subject.
Thanks, Ron.
