Laura,
There are two steps involved in getting the generation line colors to work
in Legacy:
1. Turn on the option for color coding ancestors: Click on Options >
Customize and select the View tab in the Customize screen. Next check the
box 'Display custom generation line colors on screen.'
2. Apply color coding to the starting person for generation line colors in
your family file (this is usually yourself.): Click on Tools > Apply
Ancestor Colors.
