Somerset was, and still is, a County in South West England. So the correct
form is
North Petherton, Somerset, England

We've never used the words County, State, Province etc as part of a place
name - but with good old English traditions we have an exception - County
Durham.

I've certainly seen Somerset referred to in some older documents - such as
censuses - as Somersetshire, but not certain that this was ever its official
name.

Remember that the Geo Location database is US centric - so it thinks that
everywhere has the four location format.

The nearest that you could get to such a way of phrasing it in this form is
North Petherton, Somerset, England, United Kingdom. But this looks ugly and
would never be used by anyone in real life.

Subject: [LegacyUG] Location names

I have in my family history file some Ancestors who can be traced back to
England. In the Geo Location Database in Legacy if I try to locate a place
in England it will display a place in the following format:
City, County, State/Province, Country.
North Petherton, , Somerset, England

Could this or should this be displayed in my program as follows:
North Petherton, Somerset State, England or North Petherton, Somerset
Province, England

In some family history files/booksI have notced that it is listed as
follows:
North Petherton, Somersetshire, England

Could someone please tell me what is the correct method to use in displaying
the name of a place in England.
Thanks Leo
