G'day Ron,

I acknowledge that everyone can make up their own mind about how they
complete their locations. I also acknowledge that many people from
your "country" do not recognise themselves as coming from the UK or
Great Britain. I also confirm my previous post, that I include the
United Kingdom as your country.

I also acknowledge that your cricket team is known as England (but
there are several non-English players) and that Scottish people come
from Scotland - never from England or Britain. I won't go into the
Scottish calls for secession. Your Royal Mail acknowleges that it is
responsible for mail in the UK. A snippet below from their web site.

"Every house and business in the UK has a complete postal address that
helps Royal Mail deliver mail quickly, accurately and cost
effectively."

Another snippet from the web site at www.direct.gov.uk is:

"Some policies and services are different in Northern Ireland,
Scotland and Wales. Find out about the responsibilities and powers of
the devolved administrations in each country. Find links to devolved
government websites in the three countries and discover what policies
and services apply."

We from the country "down under" refer to persons coming from your
country in sometimes colourful terms but often as being British or
coming from the UK.

So --- out of all this mess, I have chosen to have United Kingdom as a
country as everyone knows what this historically comprises and to have
England, Scotland, Northern Ireland and Wales as State/Provinces.
From this your counties and towns fall into the same format as the
GeoLocation database.

I use the same methodology for Australia. Although we have counties
also, they are not used other than in legal documents (particularly
land titles). So to keep my world-wide locations list in some
semblance of order, for towns in Australia I generally leave the
county out. This leaves double commas in the middle of the location,
but I accept that as part of the price of trying to be consistent with
my locations throughout the world. It also works well with the Geo
database. My Perth location would appear as:

Perth, , Western Australia, Australia

I hope that my rationale will assist other users in deciding how to
format their locations and use the Geo database. I find it immensely
helpful.

Stuart,

That is very true. The problem is that we do not use nor recognise either
the Uk or Great Britain as a country.
