That, to me, reads like only one link, by which I mean one event/person linked to one picture, but linked twice which I suggest would mean duplicate paths.

Not duplicate paths but duplicate links - same path, same filename - only one picture file BUT two links I've kept quiet on this thread as I couldn't think of any quick way to fix this. Like Brian, I think the best help is the Picture List Report and then going to each gallery in turn.
