We don't particularly disagree on thiis, the version I have in System32 btw
is 6.0.6470.0 (Sept. 2006). The main points I was making was 1) it is worth
doing the free check and 2) one cannot simply copy the dll from one place to
another eg. from the lap-top to the Desk Top.
Incidentally I have 3 copies as Ahead Nero use it (but call it
Xceed.dll.nco) and have it in their folder in the application program. I
also thought it was not good practice for programs to overwite System32
dlls.

Before using such a service, I would rename the existing file and reinstall
Legacy to see if that will put in and register the correct version. Another
person has stated "I just ran a search on XCeedZip.dll and found two
copies, one in the Legacy\backup folder and the other in the
\WINDOWS\system32 folder. Size, version and creation time for Legacy was
417 KB, 5.0.92.0 and 1/8/2007 4:59 PM, but for the system file it was
485KB, 6.0.6470.0 and 1/8/2007 5:09 PM". I would be reluctant to use the
version 4.5.67.0 that that site will install.
Straight reinstalls do not always update existing files, but renaming it
will give Legacy the chance to start fresh.

Hi Ellaine,
Following Sherry's comments on Xceedzip.dll, which is a dll I am not
familiar with, I had to do some research!
Yes, it would seem that it is possible for this dll to be taken over by a
worm but if your AV and Spyware software is up to date and regularly run
and show no problems this is unlikely.
More likely is that you have downloaded some software which has installed
a different version of this dll and it is either old or not installed
properly (in any event I would not be too happy/confident in the software
supplier).
It is not possible just to exchange this dll for another version as it has
to be installed on your computer and registered. Usually the registration
will be done automatically during the installation and it maybe that this
is where the problem arose.
I suggest you run the free scan on this site
http://www.dynamiclink.nl/htmfiles/rframes/info_dll/info_x/34.htm
to see what they say about this dll on your computer. If you do need to
replace it they charge around $13US. I do not know of a free version of
this dll. They do state that they are offering the original producer's
version and this is important.
Although I have used this site myself for other things and found it to be
reliable, I do emphasise that I cannot accept responsibility for the
outcome and their service.

Ron:
Thanks for your reply
Yes I am going into Legacy file>backup or file>restore. The computer has
only been owned by myself - it is a Dell and is about three years old.
Prior to just a week or so ago I was able to go into Legacy under file
and create a backup and also go into file and click on restore a family
file and it all worked fine. I save to varoius drives - D, a memory stick
in E and F and of course C. Do you think this could be some sort of a
virus?

Elaine,
As has been said before this is usually a network error so could you
clarify some points for me:
When you say in para 2) "restore a family file" do you mean using
File>Restore?
When you try to save the back to what drive and folder is it being saved
(in the box at the top)?
Have you ever managed to back-up or restore using this Desk Top - is it
a used one which has come from a company - have you only just obtained
it?
This error strongly suggests that the computer has previously been used
on a network (or currently is) and you do not have the rights to use the
back-up facilities.

Dear Ron, Cathy, Jack and Legacy support:
I have spent some time working with this error in the hopes that if I
understand it better I can give to you good folks some helpful
information:
1) The error appears when go into the Legacy program and I try to
either backup a family file or restore a family family file on my
desktop computer ONLY -NO PROBLEM IN DOING EITHER ON MY LAPTOP.
2) I am going into legacy, clicking on file and selecting either back
up a family file or restore a family file. - all goes well until I
click save and then the following error appears:
3)Backup error: 530 - the license key required to use the control was
not found or is invalid. Make sure you have called the license method
with a valid license key as described in the documentation.
4) Again when I go into the Legacy program on my laptop and do exactly
the same things as listed above - ie bring the file up, select backup
a family file or restore a family file, the program works perfectly for
C, D or memory.
stick.
WHAT I DO NOT UNDERSTAND IS WHY I ABLE TO PERFORM THESE FUNCTIONS ON
ONE COMPUTER AND NOT THE OTHER - I took the Legacy 6.0 disk and
reinstalled it on both the laptop and desktop with my Norton disabled.
I hope the above answers enough of your questions for you experts to be
able to figure out how my problem may be solved.
Many thanks-
Ellaine Goodall
