With regard to census reports ? many many of my families are large and
when I find them on the 1841 census (for example) I enter the
information on everyone?s file, then when I come to 1851, 1861 etc I
do the same so obviously there is a lot of duplication if I do a book
report. I personally don?t mind this but wonder if this is standard
procedure.
I'm not sure that there is such a thing as "standard procedure"! This is
how *I* tackle Censuses. Let's assume there is a family comprising John
Smith (Farmer) and his wife Jane (maiden name Brown) and their child
James. Here is how I enter them:
Event: England Census
Description: John Smith; head of household; married; aged 25; born in
Town, County; Farmer
Date: Census date
Place: Civil Parish, Town, County, Country.
Notes: Other household members were his wife Jane Brown (RIN) and their
son James Smith RIN. [Source]
Event: England Census
Description: Jane Smith; wife; married; aged 23; born in Town, County
Date: Census date
Place: Civil Parish, Town, County, Country.
Notes: See John Smith RIN. [Source]
Event: England Census
Description: James Smith; son; aged 2; born in Town, County; Farmer
Date: Census date
Place: Civil Parish, Town, County, Country.
Notes: John Smith (RIN). [Source]
I use the same format for all Censuses, except that there is less
information in the 1841. (I would also include whether
Employer/Employee or Disability where those columns are included in the
Census and applicable to the individual.) If there are Servants,
Lodgers etc who are not individuals in my Family File I include them in
the notes, but usually not with much detail.
Incidentally, because I am using DeLuxe Legacy, I like to use bold to
highlight the names in Notes of anyone who has their own entry in my
Family File.
