I believe rtf stands for:
Rich Text Format
As apposed to a DOC file (MS-Word), or a PDF file (Adobe), or a WP (Word
Perfect) file, etc. RTF tended to be more universal (in the past anyway).
Almost any word processors could open AND EDIT an RTF file, but only certain
ones could open DOC, and only other ones could open WP, etc. Unlike TXT
file (that has no formatting), an RTF file can contain formatting (colored
text, bold, italics, underline, etc). Thus RTF files became a standard
that many "non-wordprocessor" applications chose to use so the user could
then load the RTF into a wordprocessor of their own choosing and further
edit it.
There can be a fair difference in the file size, but I don't recall which
way. I'm thinking an RTF tends to be bigger than a DOC file.

Subject: Re: [LegacyUG] QUESTION ON RTF REPORT FORMATTING
Hi Valerie,
"Can some one tell me what use this rtf file can be used for ?"
It can be opened in your word processor, which then allows you to
manipulate the report to make it appear as you want it to. Insert more
pictures and size them how you want, delete text, format paragraphs...
I'm sure there are other uses, but that's the one I know of. :-)
Kind Regards,
Wendy Howard
